Celebrating Pride, City-Wide

Blog Post: From Cindy Gilroy – Celebrating Pride, City-Wide

This June, as we kick off Pride Season in Winnipeg, we do so with colour, heart, and a bold reminder that this city stands with love, equity, and visibility for everyone. You’ll be seeing that commitment roll right past you—literally.

I’m thrilled to share that Winnipeg Transit is debuting a brand-new Ride with Pride bus, wrapped in progressive Pride colours and adorned with artwork that reflects the spirit and strength of our 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. This vibrant and inclusive design is more than just a bus wrap—it’s a moving message of celebration, belonging, and progress.

Created by Transit’s own design team in collaboration with the Pride City of Winnipeg Professional Equity Network, this bus will first hit the streets at this Sunday’s Pride Parade under this year’s theme: “Rise in Pride, Stand in Strength.” After the parade, it’ll stay in service on regular routes until next May—reminding us every day that inclusion shouldn’t be seasonal.

It features playful and diverse characters, an uplifting design with a curve that mimics a smile, and a silhouette of our skyline—symbolizing that this city, our home, is part of a larger movement toward equality. It’s joyful, intentional, and Winnipeg-proud.

We’re not just showing up with paint and parades. We’re also doing the ongoing work. The City is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace for all employees. Through our Pride Equity Network and training like the Pronouns and Gender Inclusive Language course, we’re equipping staff with the knowledge and awareness needed to make everyone feel seen and respected.

Many of our dedicated employees will be walking alongside the Ride with Pride bus at the parade—please wave, cheer, and celebrate with them! And if you’re looking to deepen your understanding, I encourage you to check out the Winnipeg Public Library’s 2SLGBTQQIA+ Info Guide, which offers inclusive resources and reading for all ages and stages of the journey.

I want to thank Winnipeg Transit, the City’s Equity Office, and our partner PATTISON Outdoor for making this beautiful initiative possible. But most of all, thank you to the community members—our neighbours, colleagues, friends, and families—who continue to rise in pride and stand in strength. This bus is for you.

Happy Pride, Winnipeg.
