Spring Cleanup Season Is Underway

Spring Cleanup Season Is Underway – Here’s What You Need to Know
April 14, 2025

Spring has officially arrived in Winnipeg, and that means it’s time to sweep away the remnants of winter. Our citywide spring cleanup is now in full swing, with crews working hard to refresh streets, sidewalks, and green spaces across the city.

What’s Happening?
Over the next six weeks, about 500 dedicated workers and more than 300 pieces of equipment will be out in full force. Crews will be cleaning:

  • Roadways, sidewalks, bridges, and back lanes
  • Boulevards and medians on major routes
  • Pathways and public parks
  • Litter and debris in public spaces

Give Crews Space to Work
Street sweepers and other equipment often need to make multiple passes and may stop or reverse suddenly. Please keep a safe distance—about three car lengths (15 metres)—to avoid damage or accidents. If you’re walking with children, keep them well back from the street when machines are in use.

Be Patient and Stay Alert
Street cleaning equipment moves slowly. If an operator signals for you to pass, wait until you make eye contact and receive a clear go-ahead. Otherwise, hang tight and let them work safely.

Respect the Team
Spring cleanup is a big job, and our crews are working hard to get it done. Please be courteous, obey flag persons, and never drive through coned-off areas.

Watch Where You Park
Parked cars can get in the way of a thorough street sweep. Look for temporary no-parking signs, especially on major routes. Vehicles parked in violation could be ticketed and towed.

In residential areas, check the street cleaning schedule online and avoid parking on the street during your zone’s scheduled cleanup.

Prep Your Property
Help us help you! Before your area is cleaned, move basketball or hockey nets away from the curb, and keep garbage and recycling bins off the street. If collection day coincides with your cleanup, bring bins back in as soon as possible.

Stay in the Know
For updates on when your street is scheduled for cleanup, download the Know Your Zone app. You’ll get notifications about temporary parking bans and important updates.

You can also find more info and the full schedule on the City of Winnipeg spring cleanup webpage.
