The Province of Manitoba is introducing a new Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit, which will replace the current Education Property Tax Rebate on property tax bills beginning in 2025.
This updated credit will continue to provide financial relief to homeowners, but under a new name and simplified format. Rather than changing how it’s delivered, this is a renaming and restructuring of the support already applied directly to your municipal property tax bill.
What You Need to Know:
- The Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit will automatically apply to your principal residence.
- It replaces the Education Property Tax Rebate, which will no longer appear on your bill starting in 2025.
- The credit will continue to show as a line item on your annual City of Winnipeg property tax statement.
- There is no application process required for most homeowners.
- Your total tax amount may still change depending on your property value and city services, but this credit helps offset part of that cost.
