{"id":5900,"date":"2025-06-10T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cindygilroy.ca\/?p=5900"},"modified":"2025-06-06T08:43:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T13:43:33","slug":"lets-talk-about-the-future-of-policing-in-winnipeg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cindygilroy.ca\/index.php\/2025\/06\/10\/lets-talk-about-the-future-of-policing-in-winnipeg\/","title":{"rendered":"Let\u2019s Talk About the Future of Policing in Winnipeg"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>By Councillor Cindy Gilroy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Winnipeg Police Board<\/strong> has officially launched its community consultation process to help shape the <strong>Winnipeg Police Service\u2019s 2026\u20132030 Strategic Plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a key moment for our city \u2014 a chance for <strong>all voices<\/strong> to be heard about how we move forward when it comes to <strong>public safety and policing in Winnipeg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Complex Conversation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I know that for some members of our community, the police play an important role in helping them feel safe and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For others, policing can feel disconnected from their lived experience or has been a source of concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Both perspectives are valid<\/strong>, and both deserve space at the table in this conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Voice Matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why I\u2019m encouraging all residents \u2014 whether you live, work, or spend time in our neighbourhoods \u2014 to get involved in this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Police Board is asking for honest feedback on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What\u2019s working<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where improvements are needed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How policing can be done differently to better reflect our community\u2019s needs and values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ways to Participate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how you can share your thoughts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udccb Online Survey &amp; Submission Form<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you have a few quick ideas or a lot to say, the Board is collecting public input online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\uddd1\ud83c\udffd\u200d\ud83e\udd1d\u200d\ud83e\uddd1\ud83c\udffe Community Round-Tables<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Local organizations, community groups, and leaders from across Winnipeg\u2019s diverse communities are being invited to take part in focused conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udde3 Public Forums<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>City-wide forums will be open to all residents.
