{"id":5816,"date":"2025-05-13T18:11:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T23:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cindygilroy.ca\/?p=5816"},"modified":"2025-05-13T18:16:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T23:16:29","slug":"winnipeg-opens-cooling-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cindygilroy.ca\/index.php\/2025\/05\/13\/winnipeg-opens-cooling-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Winnipeg Opens Cooling Sites"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>City of Winnipeg Opens Cooling Sites as Temperatures Soar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we brace for another wave of high heat in Winnipeg, I want to remind residents that the City is opening up public spaces to help keep everyone safe and hydrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four <strong>clean drinking water tanks<\/strong> have been set up and are available to anyone needing a place to refill their bottle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>888 Main St. at Stella Ave<\/strong> (near Mount Carmel Clinic)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>300 Princess St.<\/strong> (near Siloam Mission)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>364 Furby St.<\/strong> (near Agape Table)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>190 Disraeli Fwy.<\/strong> (near N\u2019Dinawemak)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the water tanks, residents are welcome to <strong>cool off inside civic facilities<\/strong> like <strong>City libraries, leisure centres<\/strong>, and <strong>indoor pools<\/strong> during regular hours. These are open to the public and air-conditioned, making them a safe and comfortable place to rest and recharge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need a safe place 24\/7?<\/strong><br>Thanks to a $1 million investment approved in the 2024 Budget, our city has several 24\/7 Safe Spaces available, including <strong>Velma\u2019s House, West End 24\/7, St. Boniface Street Links<\/strong>, and <strong>N\u2019Dinawemak<\/strong>. These sites provide shelter, food, support services, and a place to cool down\u2014any time, day or night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look out for one another\u2014<strong>check in on neighbours, especially seniors or those with health concerns<\/strong>, and follow these heat safety tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drink water regularly\u2014<strong>don\u2019t wait until you\u2019re thirsty<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limit time in direct sun; wear a hat and loose clothing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep kids and pets out of hot vehicles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use portable A\/Cs safely and avoid overloading circuits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call <strong>911<\/strong> if someone shows signs of heatstroke or exhaustion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re out in the community and notice someone struggling, say something, do something.
